Natural Cycle IVF is the gentlest form of in vitro fertilisation. Rather than using hormonal medications to stimulate your ovaries into producing multiple eggs, it works with your body's own natural rhythm — collecting the single egg that your ovaries have already selected for that month.

Dr. Gunjan Kacker, founder and MD of White Stork IVF, is one of the few specialists in India who has championed natural cycle IVF as a core part of her practice throughout her 25-year career. For patients who want to minimise or avoid hormonal intervention entirely, this is often the first approach we explore together.

It is a slower, more patient approach than conventional IVF — typically producing one embryo per cycle. But for many patients, it is also the most aligned with how they want to experience fertility treatment: gently, and in harmony with their body rather than against it.

The Process

How Natural Cycle IVF works.

STEP 1

Cycle monitoring

We track your natural menstrual cycle through regular ultrasound scans to identify the dominant follicle your body has naturally selected — no drugs needed at this stage.

STEP 2

Egg retrieval

When the follicle reaches maturity, we collect the single egg in a short, minimally invasive procedure performed under light sedation.

STEP 3

Fertilisation

Your egg is fertilised in our on-site lab using either conventional IVF or ICSI, depending on sperm parameters.

STEP 4

Embryo development

Your embryo is monitored in our lab by Vani, our resident senior embryologist who is on-site 24 hours a day.

STEP 5

Embryo transfer

When the embryo is ready, it is transferred back to the uterus in a simple, painless procedure.

Who it’s for

Questions

Frequently asked questions.

Is Natural Cycle IVF as successful as conventional IVF?

Success rates per cycle are lower than conventional IVF because only one egg is retrieved rather than multiple. However, because natural cycle IVF can be repeated consecutively and at lower cost, cumulative success rates over several cycles can be comparable. The right measure of success depends on your individual situation — your doctor will give you a realistic picture at your consultation.

How is Natural Cycle IVF different from regular IVF?

Conventional IVF uses hormonal medications to stimulate the ovaries to produce 8–15 eggs in one cycle. Natural Cycle IVF retrieves the single egg your body naturally selected that month, without stimulation. The lab process — fertilisation, culture, and transfer — is the same. The difference is what happens before egg collection.

How many cycles of Natural Cycle IVF will I need?

Because only one egg is retrieved per cycle, multiple cycles are often needed to achieve a pregnancy. Three to six cycles is a common treatment plan for natural cycle IVF patients. The lower cost and minimal physical impact of each cycle makes this realistic for many patients.

Is the egg retrieval painful in Natural Cycle IVF?

Egg retrieval is performed under light sedation, so you will not be awake or in pain during the procedure. Some patients experience mild discomfort or cramping afterward, which typically resolves within a few hours. Because there is no stimulation, there is no bloating or discomfort from enlarged ovaries before the procedure.

Can Natural Cycle IVF be combined with ICSI?

Yes. If there are any concerns about sperm quality or fertilisation, the single retrieved egg can be fertilised using ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection) rather than conventional insemination. Your embryologist will recommend the most appropriate fertilisation method based on sperm parameters.
